A Lifeplan Hawaiʻi Youth Leadership Group officially kicked off in the summer of 2010. Team building activities, program feedback and suggestions, and networking with other teens on the island help Lifeplan teens broaden their horizons, refine their leadership skills, share ideas, and much more! Events such as the Youth Summits are important to the discover-based learning success of the program because it nurtures an environment where teens can meet others, just like themselves, who are in the Lifeplan program. Below are highlights from the summits held to date:
2013 Youth Summit
An Important Milestone – More Than 1,000 Youth Touched by Lifeplan
2011 Youth Summit
Dr. Andy Mecca and Dr. Jim Kooler and Professor Lee Kooler presented a very special workshop for participants of the Lifeplan Institute Hawaiʻi Island 2011 program. The event was held on Friday, July 1 at Four Seasons Resort Hualālai. Teens learned new self-building skills, met with other teens from around the island, and enjoyed a day filled with activities! They mingled with other success-minded people who are taking steps to plan their future through the Lifeplan program.
2010 Youth Summit
Held July 2010, this first Youth Summit for Lifeplan Hawaiʻi took place at Four Seasons. Students in attendance were the first Hawaiʻi Island teens in the STATE to complete the MyLifeplan program. Teens from Honokaʻa, Kohala, Waimea, Waikoloa, and Kailua-Kona came together to share their experiences, learn more about each other, and most importantly to have fun! Mentors that helped to guide these teens through the My Lifeplan program also attended the event, which was lead by Dr. Jim Kooler, Lifeplan Institute’s Operations Officer, who works to keep the Lifeplan experience and infrastructure aligned to work perfectly for young people and their adult allies.
Teens also experience Kona Village Resort to indulge in water sports like stand-up paddle boarding and outrigger canoe racing – the teens from Honokaʻa taking first place. The group also enjoyed lunch on the lūʻau grounds and toured petroglyph fields with Kona Village Cultural Specialist Aunty Lani.
